VersaJet™ Hydrosurgery System (Smith & Nephew): Principle of Operation

The device utilizes a high-pressure jet of sterile saline that travels parallel to the wound surface. This high-speed jet creates a Venturi effect, enabling the surgeon to use a single instrument to simultaneously:

• hold, cut, and remove necrotic tissue;

• aspirate and evacuate debris from the intervention site;

• perform wound aspiration.

At low power settings, the VersaJet™ reverse jet functions as a vacuum:

• it performs gentle wound debridement, softly and gradually removing non-viable tissue.

At high power settings, the VersaJet™ jet:

• removes necrotic tissue and bacteria while preserving viable cells;

• effectively eliminates damaged tissue and wound debris.

• Chronic Wounds – assists in removing non-viable tissue and prepares the wound bed for further treatment, such as Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT).
